Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi received the Special Envoy of the President of Palestine, Riyad al-Maliki, in a bilateral meeting at the newly restored Pancasila Building.
“Following this morning’s inauguration ceremony of the Pancasila Building, it is being used for the first time in its new form for a bilateral meeting, and that meeting is with Palestine,” Foreign Minister Retno told the media in Jakarta on Monday, August 19, 2024.
Retno stated that the discussions would focus on future cooperation between Indonesia and Palestine. “This follows President Joko Widodo’s statement that Indonesia will continue to support the Palestinian people’s struggle,” Retno explained.
The restoration of the Pancasila Building began last year. The renovation was necessary due to the building’s age and the need to address its condition and safety, Retno said.
“The process was by no means easy. A team of cultural heritage building experts and many conservation specialists were involved in this project,” Retno emphasized.
She highlighted that the hard work, meticulous process, and significant time and dedication have resulted in the Pancasila Building’s new, more radiant appearance.
“This historic building stands tall and majestic once again, ... The Pancasila Building is more than just bricks and mortar. It will continue to be a significant milestone in Indonesia’s diplomatic journey and decision-making process in foreign policy,” Retno stated.
Meanwhile, Riyad noted that the renovation of the Pancasila Building is more than just an administrative milestone. According to him, the building symbolizes a renewed and refreshed commitment to collaboration, understanding, and partnership.
“It reflects our shared vision of a world where countries work together to address common challenges in accordance with international law, to seize collective opportunities, and to enhance the welfare of our people. Indonesia, with its rich cultural heritage, dynamic economy, and strategic significance on the international stage, has always been a strategic partner and a valuable friend to the State of Palestine,” he said.
For Riyad, the Pancasila Building will serve as a bridge between the two governments, facilitating more direct and effective dialogue, enhancing the ability to collaborate on issues of mutual interest, and deepening the understanding of each other’s perspectives and aspirations.
“This building will become a center of innovation and cooperation, driving initiatives that will benefit both our countries and contribute to regional and global stability and prosperity,” concluded Riyad Maliki.
